Liiküla border outpost, which was established more than 60 years ago to guard Estonia's western border on Saaremaa

is the richest and most unique border guard complex remaining in Eastern Europe with the tallest watchtower of its type (total height with the cabin is 22 m).

Both the Soviet border guard, being one of the support structures of the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, as well as the Estonian border guard after the regaining of Estonia’s independence, have operated here.

Currently, a theme park dedicated to the history of the border guard services operates here and has beautiful alleys, a 22-metre tall watchtower with probably the best view of Hiiumaa and Kõpu lighthouse from Saaremaa, bomb shelter amusement, indoor and outdoor exhibitions.
